The History of San Lorenzo and Monuments
The residence is located within one of the richest areas in terms of monuments and historical artistic treasures in Florence.
Several of the residence's apartments and the panoramic terrace look onto the Medici Chapels, masterpieces of work of the grand master Brunelleschi (the Old Sacristy) and the genius Michelangelo (the New Sacristy). The chapels conserve magnificent works of art in marble by Donatello as well as Michelangelo.
Within the San Lorenzo cloister you'll also find the magnificent Laurentian Library with its entrance designed by Michelangelo, the Palazzo Medici Riccardi where you'll find the splendid frescoes by Benozzo Gozzoli and the breathtaking Piazza del Duomo where you'll find the cathedral, the Baptistery and Belltower designed and decorated by the great Giotto.
The San Lorenzo Market
The San Lorenzo Market is a beautiful architectural building from the end of the 19th century built in glass, iron and local stone known as pietra serena. It has always housed the fresh produce market within, making it the ideal destination for purchasing the best Italian and Tuscan food products you'll cook your meals with during your stay at the Residence.
All around the market, an outdoor market sets up its stalls every day offering clothing, leather items and many souvenir items. This will be the best place to do your shopping for yourself and for gifts to take back home!
